Weed Trade Day – Sunday May 19

Friends of Water Race and Quinn Reserve are hosting a Weed Trade Day.

When: Sunday May 19, 10am – 2pm
Where: Cnr Marcus St and Falkingham Rd & Quinn Cres, Mt Evelyn
Contact: Ben Ellis, blkms76@purpleone.com.au
FREE soft drinks and sausage sizzle from approx 11am – 1pm

Everyone in the neighbourhood is invited to come along and take part in this fun local event to reduce the impact of environmental weeds on Quinn Reserve, and the Water Race Reserve, and our local area.

Bring in bags of your environmental weeds and trade them for FREE native plants for your garden.
If you need bags for transporting the weeds we can provide them in advance or on the day (contact us via the email above).

Meet people from your area, learn about the local environment group, see where progress is being made, get some vegetation management advice, or just enjoy a chat over a drink and sausage.

There will also be an opportunity to do trackside weeding of invasive species and re-planting with indigenous species in Quinn Reserve (weather permitting) to help restore local plant populations. In addition we hope to organise a short guided walk of the Reserve.

Please ensure you are dressed well (including strong footwear) for the weather. If you are intending to help with weeding, bring secateurs, gloves and protective eyewear.

Trade Weeds for Plants 10am – 2pm or until they run out.

Target weeds include Ivy, Japanese Honeysuckle, Blackberry, Periwinkle and Angled Onion.
