Friends of Mt Evelyn Aqueduct
Our Mission
The Mt Evelyn Aqueduct Friends group aims to maintain and improve the Aqueduct walking Trail in two ways:
1) Organise activities around bush regeneration. This means removing environmental weeds that have taken hold and which suppress the growth of local indigenous species. We also conduct planting of local species in late winter and spring.
2) We also conduct occasional plant identification walks along the Aqueduct Trail to assist in making people aware of the natural beauty of our indigenous species.

Friends of Water Race and Quinn Reserve Inc. (FWRQR) was incorporated on 11th August 1998, is located in Mt Evelyn and consists of a group of passionate local people. The group works to restore the Water Race as a walking trail which encompasses existing roads and footpaths with linkages to the Mt Evelyn Aqueduct Walk, Warburton Trail, Lillydale Lake and Silvan Reservoir.

Enhancing the local environmental characteristics of the Water Race and Quinn Reserve, whilst preserving and publicising the historic aspects, is a major focus for the group. Opened in 1905, the Water Race provided the first water supply for the town of Lilydale. The Water Race formation and artefacts are included in the Shire’s Heritage Overlay. (HO255).

Over the years, FWRQR has worked collaboratively with a range of organisations including Yarra Ranges Council, Parks Victoria, Melbourne Water and Birmingham Road Primary School. Through these partnerships and successful grant applications, FWRQR have been effective in restoring Puddle Dam, revegetating sections of Quinn Reserve and improving the quality of the water flowing into Quinn Creek. They also work tirelessly to promote the history and significance of Quinn Reserve and Puddle Dam.

Since 2013 FWRQR have received grants in excess of $50,000 through Melbourne Water’s River Health Incentives Program. These funds have supported major weed control and revegetation programs, particularly around plantings at the Horseshoe Falls Area of Quinn Reserve. FWRQR remain active, with the group hosting regular events, posted on the friends group notice board located at the point of Quinn Crescent.
