Whispers In The Dark

In another life time Leonie was a specialist teacher of infants, a revered group of women who spent extra years in training honing their craft in the pursuit of one of our greatest gifts – the ability to read. This she did for 25 years before retraining under the guidance of Marie Clay’s wonderful philosophy of ‘Reading Recovery’, becoming this areas first teacher to be trained in this discipline. The demands of patience combined with a loving approach to younger children who would have otherwise been condemned to a life without understanding has endeared her to many parents who for the first time actually heard their children read. Yet for over a generation she promoted that love of language but in her own unstated and private manner committed her thoughts through a variety of poetic mediums that she is now prepared to share with the world. ’Whispers in the Dark’ is her first published volume of work yet for some years now she has presented her poetry both on Melbourne radio and to the general public.
