CFA Fire Danger Period commences today

This means burning off in the open is no longer allowed until the 30th of April 2007 unless revoked earlier by the CFA due to favourable weather conditions.

In some instances fire can be lit in accordance with a Permit, however Permits are only issued in extreme circumstances where there is no alternative to dispose of the material. (note: No Permits were issued last summer)

The cost of disposing of material is not a factor in obtaining a permit.

Residents should be reminded that there is a Green Waste Collection also commencing throughout the Shire on November 12.

Any requests for permits relating to burning off, to dispose of diseased plants or animals or as part of commercial operations such as farms, nurseries and sawmills need to be referred to CFA Region 13 for their consideration on 8739 1300.

Thank you for your cooperation.

The Shire of Yarra Ranges has also put together a pdf with information for Fire ready Neighbourhoods. A 3 hour workshop in each suburb to help you get your property ready for the fire season. Places are limited so please book ahead.
