Do you live in the outer-eastern suburbs and  love getting out in beautiful natural surrounds locally and walking? Are you looking for the opportunity to meet other people or families in the local area who love keeping active and being outdoors? Or perhaps the opportunity to complete a more challenging overnight or weekend hike with some camping?

The Mt Evelyn Walking & Adventure Group (MWAG) is a community group open to people who live in the outer-eastern suburbs of all ages and fitness levels who are passionate about their health, the outdoors and meeting other people in the area.  Select walks during the year will be open to kids and dogs so the whole family can join in.

The groups are currently in trial stage. Assuming there are sufficient numbers and interest they will be up and running at full frequency by May 2012.

‘Shake off Mondayitis’ Walking Group
2nd & 4th Monday of the month
Currently running once a month
20/2, 9/4, 12/3 (diff location)

This is a regular walking group that meets on a Monday evening (2X month) at 7pm to walk between 5-6km around the Lilydale Lake & Wetland Area. Once daylight savings finishes the walk consists of 2 laps of the lake which is well lit.

‘Tuesday Early Bird’ Walking Group
1st & 3rd Tuesday of the month
Currently running once a month
28/2, 27/3, 31/4

This is a regular walking group that meets on Tuesday morning (2Xmoth) at 6.30am at the Community Notice Board (next to Morrison Café) in Wray Crescent Mt Evelyn. The walks last for 1-1.5 hours and take in the Warburton Trail, Mt Evelyn Aqueduct Trail and other areas of Mt Evelyn.

‘Finally Friday!’ Walking Group
1st & Last  Friday of the month
Currently running once a month
24/2, 30/3, 20/4

This is a regular walking group that meets on Friday morning (2Xmoth) at 9.30am at the Community Notice Board (next to Morrison Café) in Wray Crescent Mt Evelyn. The walks last for 1-1.5 hours and take in the Warburton Trail, Mt Evelyn Aqueduct Trail and other areas of Mt Evelyn

‘Sunday Family Fun’ Group
One Sunday/month
Next date: 11th March – Alfred Nicholas Gardens at 10am

This is a regular family focused group that meets up once a month on a Sunday (in either the morning or afternoon) in a lovely outdoor location that provides suitable access for all ages. There are usually some short walks and a picnic area to have morning or afternoon tea.

‘Ranges Rambles’ Walking Series
One Saturday /month

Our ‘Ranges Rambles’ Walking Series hosts one walk a month in the Yarra Ranges. – taking in areas as diverse as Mt Evelyn, Olinda, Sherbrooke, Doongalla, Warburton, Healesville etc The walks vary in difficulty.
Walks scheduled include
26/2 – Doongalla (4-5km) Moderate
3/3 – Sherbrooke (12km) Moderate
31/3 – Mt Evelyn (15km)  Moderate
28/4 – Eastern Sherbrooke (7.2km) Moderate/Difficult

‘Out & About’ Adventure Series
One Saturday/month

Our Adventure Series hosts entry-level events such as kayaking, cycling, caving, rock climbing, camping etc.  It also hosts longer day walks or more serious hikes in superb locations around Victoria.
